PML-Q meets in Islamabad on 29th

Published December 27, 2002

LAHORE, Dec 26: A meeting of the PML-Q parliamentary party in the National Assembly has been summoned for Dec 29 at Islamabad to work out a strategy for the prime minister’s confidence vote the following day. Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali had been elected prime minister by 172 MNAs — a single vote majority in the lower house of parliament. Some party leaders claim that more legislators will vote for the premier on Dec 30.

RESIGNATION: There are indications that Mian Muhammad Azhar will resign as party president before the Senate elections, due in January.

The party tickets for the upper house of parliament will be signed by the new president, possibly Chaudhry Shujaat Husain.

The new secretary-general will also be elected next month.
