RAWALPINDI, Sept 2: After the terrorist attack at a clinic on Peshawar Road, an explosives-laden device with inscription “first gift from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)” was discovered on a farm house in the outskirt of Westridge police station on Sunday night.

A bomb disposal expert told Dawn that the Russian-made device was six inches long and 2.5 inches wide, and contained 500gms of explosives.

“It was attached to the main iron gate of the farm house owned by Haji Sahib Khan, a businessman who hails from Mohmand Agency,” he added.

The device was first found by a watchman of the farm house who informed his employer. The police and bomb disposal squad were contacted who arrived shortly after and defused the device. However, news spread fast as a large number of people from the surrounding areas gathered around the farm house.

According to details, Haji Sahib Khan had received threats on his cellphone at least three times in the last 10 days. He switched off his cellphone for a few days but did not report the matter to the police. When he switched on his phone again, he received a text message which stated: “You are under observation and on our hit list.”

Later, Dawn spoke to SSP Operation Dr Akhtar Abbas who said the device had a detonator and was not timed.

When enquired whether the TTP was active in Rawalpindi, he replied: “Right now there seem to be no links between the Peshawar Road incident and today’s incident. However, matters are still being investigated by the police.”

He said the police had questioned certain suspicious people residing around the farm house.
