PESHAWAR, Sept 1: A local court here on Saturday sent Jehangir Khan, former husband of famous Pashto singer Ghazala Jawed, to prison on judicial remand though he pleaded not guilty. He was charged in the double murder of Ms Ghazala and her father.

The accused was produced before the court of judicial magistrate, Adil Akber Khan, by officials of Shah Qabool Police Station after completion of his two-day physical remand with the police.

Aslam Khan, investigation officer in the case, requested the court to grant further custody of the suspect, saying the interrogation was in progress. The court asked him to present the outcome of the two-day physical custody, but the official could not show any noteworthy progress in the case.

The suspect also declined to confess his guilt. The court sent him to prison on judicial remand and directed that he should be produced again on Sept 15.

The suspect had remained absconder for around two months after the occurrence and was apprehended by the local police on Aug 29 from his residence at Hindki Daman area.

Late Ghazala and her father, Jawed Khan, were killed on June 26 by a group of armed men in Dabgari Garden area when she had just left a beauty parlour.
