BADIN: After the death of over 15 people due to consumption of toxic liquor in Badin and its neighbouring districts including Tando Mohammad Khan and Tando Allah Yar within a week police and officials of excise department have started the crackdown on bootleggers.

The police after busting the dens at various areas in these districts and have nabbed as many as 17 people on the allegations of manufacturing and selling the poisonous liquor.

The team of excise police today raided a den in Golarchi town of Badin district, recovering 600 liters of liquor, arrested two accused.

Police in Khorwah town also arrested two youngsters with 25 liters of liquor and sent them behind the bars.

Tando Bago police raided at different places and apprehended three persons with the huge quantity of the raw alcohols.

SSP Tando Mohammad Khan, Mr Mohammad Ali Baloch when contacted denied the reports of the loss of two human lives due to the drinking of liquor in his district adding he said that he had already ordered his subordinates to start crackdown on liquor or drug dens.

Mr Khalid Mustafa Korai, the SSP Tando Allah Yar confirmed the deaths of  8 persons and added that police had busted number of the drug dens and arrested 10  accused and have recovered the 60 liters of liquor.

He informed that he had ordered the SHOs of Pirayo Lund, Chambar, Nasarpur and other police stations to speed up the efforts to put an end to this menace, which according to him, was causing the deaths among the people of low income families.

It is learnt that highly dangerous ingredients, like Urea, injections for animals, intoxicant tablets and other chemicals are used in the manufacturing of liquor, which is locally called Thara.
