GUJRANWALA, Dec 22: The Anti-Corruption Establishment booked three summary clerks of a former district traffic magistrate for corruption while inquiry against the former magistrate is still going on.

Muhammad Aslam Bhatti and his summary clerks Jahangir Butt, Nabi Ahmad Butt and Fazal Qadir Chattha were involved in receiving bribes from transporters for the release of their impounded vehicles and documents. On receiving complaints, the then army monitoring team had conducted a raid and recovered tainted money and record from their possession.

The inquiry against the former district traffic magistrate, posted at Toba Tek Singh, was still going on with the Punjab Chief Secretary. Summary clerks, posted in the city and at Naushera Virkan tehsil, had sold challans of vehicles in connivance with the traffic magistrate. They would also impound vehicles on the GT Road just for receiving bribe from vehicle owners.

Meanwhile, Range DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal retired compulsorily a DSP for corruption after an inquiry.

Shah Nawaz of Hafizabad had complained that DSP Ghulam Sabir received bribe from him in connection with a case. He also alleged that the DSP teased the people for receiving bribe even in minor cases. The DIG inducted Hafizabad SP Saud Akhtar as an inquiry officer who found him guilty of charges.

AUCTION: The local banking court ordered an auction of the property of two heavyweight defaulters and issued warrants of arrest for some 12 others here on Saturday. Two industrialists of Sialkot— Younas and Shafiq — owed Rs1.5 million to the Habib Bank’s Sialkot branch.
