LAHORE, Aug 17: At least 45 people reportedly fainted after taking ‘poisonous food’ during an Iftar dinner at a theatre near Mozang Chungi late on Thursday night.

According to reports, an auto shop owner hosted an Iftar dinner at the theatre. Guests were served food at 10:30pm and 45 of them fell unconscious soon after taking the food.

People alerted the Rescue 1122 and six ambulances reached the scene. The affected people were rushed to Sir Ganga Ram and Services hospitals.

Quoting initial investigations, Rescue 1122 officials said the hosts had sprayed a chemical in the hall to kill flies and other insects without taking preventive measures. They said all patients shifted to hospitals had been discharged.
