LAHORE, Aug 9: The Public Accounts Committee of the Punjab Assembly has directed the prison department not to transfer government amount to the Prison Foundation and form rules in this regard.

Presiding over a meeting of PAC-I at the assembly chambers here on Thursday, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin said the government amount should not be transferred to the prison department to avoid its usage on discretion. He asked the department to frame rules in this respect.

The audit paras of the prison and police departments came under discussion in the meeting and the committee issued some directions to the effect. Other committee members Maj Abdur Rehman (retired), Yawar Zaman and Mukhtar Bharat were also present.

PPP: Pakistan People’s Party Punjab President Safdar Warriach has said there will be more confusion and instability in the country after the court’s decision to issue contempt notice to the prime minister.

In a statement on Thursday, he said such a ‘move’ could derail democracy. He said parliament had a supremacy over other institutions and the PPP would not let any one to deprive the parliament of its right to legislation.

Warraich said the anti-democratic forces were conspiring against the PPP-led government but they would not succeed in their design.

He said his party would form government in the Centre and all provinces including Punjab after winning the 2013 elections.

“The PML-N will face defeat in next elections for its bad governance and double standards,” he said.
