KARACHI, Aug 3: The core committee comprising representatives of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Thursday continued its deliberations on a consensus local government system for Sindh at the CM’s House and completed a review of the procedural sub-sections of a system proposed by the PPP.

The meeting also considered the ‘first schedule’ that pertained to the functioning of the proposed setup but further consideration was put off because of some confusion over its basic structure, sources close to the committee said on Friday.

The committee decided to hold its next meeting on Tuesday.

Regarding the infrastructure of the LG system under consideration, the sources said it was not clear whether it would be called a municipal corporation or metropolitan corporation; what the controlling authority of the future LG setup would be called; and who would prepare and approve the city’s master plan. The issues did arise at the meeting but it decided to discuss them at a later stage, the sources said. —Staff Reporter
