LAHORE, July 26: The estate management directorate of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) retrieved on Thursday 30 kanals in Block C of Johar Town from some gypsy families who resisted the eviction.

The retrieved land will be used for public welfare projects, says a press release.

The city nomads pelted police and LDA officials with stones. Police used tear gas to disperse them.

LDA Estate Management Wing Director Nauman Khan told Dawn the LDA would get registered cases against the people for resisting the operation. He said more land would be retrieved in Johar Town in the coming days.

Also, dozens of gypsies protested against the LDA for eviction and manhandling them. They demanded that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif take action against the officials.
