KARACHI: At least five persons were wounded in a grenade attack in Orangi Town on Tuesday evening, police said.

They said that unknown men on a motorcycle lobbed a hand-grenade on the main road in Fareed Colony within the remit of the Mominabad police station and escaped.

SSP-West Amir Farooqui said that some passers-by were wounded in the attack and they suffered injuries in their legs.

He said no specific place was the target of the attack, as they threw the grenade on the main road.

The wounded persons were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

Charity worker

The body of a young man was found along the Lyari Expressway near PIB Colony on Tuesday.

Police said the trussed-up body was found near Nishtar Basti along the wall of the Lyari Expressway.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

The victim was identified as Mujahid Khan, 37. He had been shot in the chest and the body bore torture marks, the police said.

He was employed at the Sailani Welfare Trust and was working at the NGO’s Gulshan office. He was a resident of Liaquatabad No 5.

A duty officer at the PIB Colony police station said the victim had left the office near Old Sabzi Mandi at around 10am and at around noon the police came to know about the body.

The police suspected that the victim was killed on the spot by some unknown persons. However, they were not sure about the exact motive of the murder.

Body in gunny bag

The body of an unidentified young man was found in Korangi on Tuesday.

Police said the body, stuffed in a gunny bag, was found near Vita Chowrangi, Sector 7-A, Korangi.

They said there was no apparent injury mark on the body but there were contusion marks on the neck.

The police suspected that the victim had been strangled.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Later, the boy was taken to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.

Youth gunned down

A young man was shot dead in the Shoe Market area in Garden on Tuesday evening, police said.

They said Aslam, 28, was sitting at a medical store when two men on a motorcycle came to the shop, fired shots at him and rode away.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died before he could be taken to hospital.

The police said the victim was not associated with any political party, but his brother was an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

They attributed the murder to the ongoing targeted killings in the old city area.

Stabbed to death

A garment factory worker was stabbed to death in the SITE area on Tuesday.

Police said the incident occurred near Faizur Rehman Hospital in Metroville, SITE, where Umar, 22, was stabbed to death in the Bachelors’ Quarters, where he was living.

They said the victim originally hailed from southern Punjab.

He shared his accommodation with six other persons and the police detained them for questioning.

An FIR in connection with the murder was yet to be lodged at the SITE-A police station.
