UMERKOT, July 22: An under-trial prisoner escaped from sub-jail here on Sunday.

Zulfiqar Khaskheli, of Mahpari near Kunri, is being tried in a case of trying to snatch a motorcycle and wounding its rider Some inmates of the jail told this correspondent that Zulfiqar was sitting with jailor Abdul Rehman Khaskheli, an employee of the revenue department, but he rushed out when he found that the main gate of the prison was open and disappeared.

But the jailer informed the authorities that he had taken the ailing inmate to a hospital from where he escaped.

On a complaint lodged by Mukhtiarkar Manzoor Junejo, police have registered a case against Abdul Rehman, the prison in-charge ASI Fida Hussain Mallah and constables Alam Lund, Mohammad Khan Samoon, Ali Mohammad and Ali Hassan.

The constables have been arrested but Abdul Rehman and the ASI are reported to have disappeared.

The constables told police that the prisoner was a cousin of Abdul Rehman and was allowed to sit in the courtyard of the jail without handcuffs during the day and sleep on the roof at night.
