Major, the oldest captive orangutan in the world, gets a slice of cake as part of its 50th birthday ceremony, on July 17, 2012, at La Boissiere-du-Doree zoo near Nantes, western France.
The 125-kilogram (275-pound) Major has lived in the zoo for more than 20 years, but he was born in 1962 in Indonesia and captured seven years later and held in zoos in Germany before being transferred to France in 1989. — AFP
