KARACHI, July 19: Hussain Homes Textile women’s soccer club shocked favourites Karachi United 3-1 in the final to win the DMC South Benazir Shaheed Women’s Football event here on Thursday.

The match’s first half went goalless but in the 15th minute of the second half, Urooj scored for Karachi United to get them into the lead.

However, in a sensational display, Hussain Homes’ captain Mehwish Khan scored a brilliant goal in the last minute of the match to go level.

Both teams failed to score in the extra time and the contest went to the penalty shootout stage which was won 2-1 by Hussain Homes for whom Khateeba and Tahira Ishaq were the scorers.

Later, chief guest Senator Yousuf Baloch distributed the prizes among the teams while praising the smooth organisation of the event by administrator Mohammad Raeesi and his team.

Winning team’s skipper Mehwish received Rs100,000 plus the trophy while runner-up captain Michele Hussain received Rs50,000.

The Fairplay award was given to the New Karachi team while Best Player’s prize went to Darakhshan Hussain, the goalkeeper of Karachi United.—Agencies
