RAWALPINDI, July 18: Chief Commissioner Rawalpindi Imadadullah Bosal on Wednesday asked the district administration and local police officials of Rawalpindi Division to put in place security arrangements during Ramazan to avoid any untoward incident and to ensure that Ehtram-e-Ramazan Ordinance is implemented in letter and spirit.

He asked district coordination officers (DCOs) and district police officers (DPOs) of Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum that security of mosques during Taraweeh and morning prayers should be coordinated with volunteers nominated by the management at mosques.

Besides, security of Sasta Ramazan bazaars, sensitive places, shrines run under the Auqaf department, religious and political leaders also be tightened.

The directions were issued in a meeting of Divisional Law and Order Committee held in the commissioner’s office.

While the commissioner chaired the meeting, in attendance were Regional Police Officer (RPO) Capt (retired) Mohammad Zubair, DCOs of Rawalpindi, Chakwal and Attock, DPOs Chakwal, Jhelum and Attock, SSP Operation Rawalpindi and Additional Commissioner Ch Habibullah.

RPO Capt (retired) Mohammad Zubair and all the DPOs in attendance briefed the participants of the meeting about the arrangements being made in Rawalpindi Division and its respective districts.

The commissioner also directed that the management of cinema houses should not be allowed to run movies during the daytime, in order to maintain the sanctity of Ramazan and on violation, licences of such cinema houses should be cancelled.

During the month no shopkeeper should be allowed to do business on footpaths of bazaars and no handcart and encroachments be allowed, he said.He also directed that car parking, motorcycle and bicycle stands be set up near Sasta Ramazan bazaars along with deployment of police and civil defence personnel.

Moreover, walk-through gates be installed around sensitive mosques during Taraweeh and morning prayers and the staff on duty must be provided with metal detectors.

The ban imposed on the misuse of loudspeakers would also be fully enforced, he added.
