ISLAMABAD, July 17: A former federal caretaker minister for inter-provincial coordination was booked on the charges of theft, trespassing and occupying a flat; sources told Dawn on Tuesday.

However, the Aabpara police said they had found Dr Mohammad Amjad innocent but further investigation was underway, adding the FIR had also been sealed. The case against Dr Amjad, who is also the senior vice-president of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), was registered on the complaint of Raja Safdar. The police said the complaint had shared a flat with Dr Amjad which the latter had hired on rent from a widow.

In early July, five persons armed with weapons raided the portion under the use of the complainant and took away five computers, three laptops and Rs350,000 cash. Later, Dr Amjad got the flat locked to deny him entry, he added.

The police said during investigation it was revealed that the complainant had hired three rooms of the flat from Dr Amjad four years back but did not pay the rent of the last three years.

On the failure of the tenant to pay the rent, Dr Amjad collected his belongings and kept them in another room. Later, he locked the flat and gave its possession to its owner.

The police said they had recovered all the valuables and would hand it over to the complainant on Superdari.

When asked if the case would be quashed as the accused was found innocent, the police said further investigation was in progress to establish the allegation.

When contacted, Dr Amjad said the allegation against him was baseless and the complainant had got the case registered against him at the behest of a big-shot in Islamabad.
