LAHORE, Dec 17: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court granted bail to a former director of the Raja Enterprises on Tuesday.

The bench took serious note of the arrest of Hammad Riaz again by the National Accountability Bureau, despite bail granted by the apex court.

Hammad Riaz submitted in the contempt petition, filed through advocates Wasim Sajjad and Ali Wasim Sajjad, that the company had paid the whole amount of the loan to the National Industrial Credit Finance Corporation (NICFC). But the NAB made reference against his father Raja Riaz, the chief executive of the company.

He submitted that his father was awarded three years imprisonment in absentia.

He said that later the NAB authorities, after failure to arrest his father, detained him which was violation of Section 31/D of the NAB Ordinance. He submitted that the NAB cannot proceed against him without the permission of the State Bank governor. The NAB can file reference on the recommendations of the SBP governor.

He prayed that the court to grant him bail and order his release.—APP
