MULTAN, July 10: Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani says ‘misconception’ of some people that any other institution is supreme than parliament will be corrected very soon.

Addressing a gathering at Daulatgate late on Sunday night, the former prime minister said parliament was supreme since it had made the constitution.

“We have protected the constitution given by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and only the parliament has the authority to bring any change to it,” he said.

Regarding his conviction, the former prime minister said he had been punished for raising voice in favour of Seraiki province.

“Today, I announce the launch of movement for the creation of Seraiki province,” he said.

He said the people of Seraiki Wasaib had faced multiple problems and the only solution (to their problems) was the creation of new province.

He said he had used the office of prime minister to ensure supremacy of the constitution, public welfare and stability of the country.

He said the reforms carried out by him had strengthened democracy and he accepted Supreme Court verdict in the larger interest of the country.

Later, he also addressed a gathering outside his residence. — Staff Correspondent
