MIRPURKHAS, July 9: Hundreds of people, mostly Christians, held a demonstration on the Hyderabad road near Ratanabad here on Monday in protest against the murder of a youth allegedly by an influential landlord and his henchmen on Sunday.

The protesters were carrying the body of victim Asif Masih alias Shera.

Leading the protest, Sarwan Bheel and Pir Khalid Jan Sarhandi said Asif was a driver. He was lifting soil for filling foundation of an under-construction school building when he was shot dead at Kachelo Farm.

They alleged that landlord Faisal Kachhelo and his henchmen were involved in the murder. The landlord was trying to save himself by telling police that the crime had been committed by his servant. They urged the authorities to ensure arrest of the landlord and his henchmen.

Later, on the interference of police the protesters dispersed peacefully and traffic was restored after two hours.

Police took the body to hospital and after legal formalities handed it over to the relatives. Allah Ditta Khokhar, father of the victim, has lodged a case with Kot Ghulam Mohammad police. He has nominated Faisal Kachhelo and Allah Bachayo Khokhar as accused.

Police have arrested Khokhar.
