THIS is with reference to the article ‘Economic disparity’, written by Amin Valliani (June 22).

I fully agree with his view that financial assistance should be made in a way that people become capable of earning their bread rather than in ways that make them perpetually dependant on charity.

In this context, the government should rethink its approach towards Benazir Income Support Programme which wastes billions of rupees without having any significant and productive effect on the conditions of the people.

Moreover, common people are also advised to give their zakat to only one or two people instead of a large number of people.

In this way, the recipients of the zakat would get larger amount of money and will become able to start their small-scale businesses.
