IT is good to see the textile, fertiliser and power-producing companies gather under the banner of ‘Save the Industry Forum’.

However, the demand kept by the forum, rather than targeting a certain business segment — in this case CNG suppliers — should have been just getting the supply of natural gas.

I strongly agree that production cost must have been affected by the inconsistent supply of gas, as claimed by the forum. However, it should be realised that the production cost is not exclusive of commutation cost.

Moreover, if the commutation cost is increased, then the cost of basic necessities in turn also rises. This will also affect the salary and production cost.

No organisation would want to lose their customers or get labelled with a bad reputation due to low quality service/product or extremely high prices. The SSGC/SNGPL has only the business of gas transportation from the extraction point to the consumer. If they do not have the capacity to supply the required demand, then they should increase it.

Moreover, if they have the capacity in pipelines and they are not being provided by the oil extraction companies, they should join along with all the affected industries, including the CNG Association, and protest to oil and gas extraction companies to fulfil their customer demand.

I hope that all industries will get organised in a proper manner to better serve all the people of this geographical region. In coming up for a solution to the problem, each industry should think positively not only for itself but also for all other business sectors. By considering others instead of just ourselves can we progress.
