ISLAMABAD, June 18: The capital administration has chalked out a flood contingency plan for the coming monsoon during which rains are expected to be 15 per cent above normal.

The plan was finalised during a meeting headed by Deputy Commissioner, Amer Ali Ahmed on Monday.

Officials of the Rawal Dam and Simly Dam management, CDA, Assistant Commissioners, DHO, ICT, Civil Defence, Traffic Police and Met office attended the meeting.

The deputy commissioner directed the officials concerned to upgrade the level of their preparedness to meet any likely flood situation in view of the forecast of more rains and ensure effective coordination during the rains. He said that the control room would be functional round the clock.

It was decided that relief and rescue teams headed by the assistant commissioners would visit low-lying areas including, Rawal Dam, Simly Dam, Korang river and other tributaries and would ensure protective arrangements prior to rains and shifting of people to safer places in case of heavy rains.

The managements of Rawal Dam and Simly Dam of CDA would announce the gradual release of water in advance, giving time to the people to move to safer places.

The participants were informed that district health department and livestock department, ICT have also started immunization drive in the rural areas against the seasonal diseases as part of preventive measures.

Chlorination of all the water supply schemes in the rural area has been started. District Administration has also identified schools buildings for the establishment of flood relief centres.
