KARACHI: Three of the eight players moved into the quarter-finals of the third Jubilee Insurance ranking snooker championship on the penultimate day of the league round at Karachi Gymkhana on Sunday.

The three cueists, two of whom are unbeaten — Shehram Changezi and Sharjeel Mehmood — along with Asjad Iqbal, were through to the last eight and the line-up will be completed when remaining five joins on completion of group matches on Monday.

Islamabad’s Shehram, who has spent couple of weeks in England and played professional qualifiers, sent Vishan Gir packing 4-0 to post sixth straight victory in group B. He was home 79-45, 53-49, 77-45, 59-41.

Sharjeel, who hails from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, coasted to 4-2 victory over veteran Naveen Perwani to stay unbeaten in Group ‘D’. He conceded two frames while registering 44-60, 76-19, 55-40, 27-61, 79-8, 70-9 victory.

Promising Asjad, the NBP Cup champion last month, trounced Shahid Aftab 4-1 to become second player from group B to advance into quarters. He had five wins and a defeat to his credit so far. He beat his opponent 77-33, 62-37, 51-65, 58-18, 58-6.

Meanwhile, former Asian No 2 Mohammad Sajjad ended winning streak of ex-Pakistan No 1 Khurram Agha imposing to 4-1 victory the scores being 40-71, 92-12, 53-51, 66-37, 67-28.
