ISLAMABAD, Nov 20: Several social and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have condemned the attack on Dawn journalist Faraz Hashmi by Major Fawad Hafiz, the serving army officer, and demanded immediate registration of FIR of the incident.

Aurat Foundation, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Sungi Foundation, The Network, Pattan Development Organization and Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), in a joint statement here on Tuesday, said the undue use of physical force by those in position of power and authority in particular was highly condemnable.

These bodies urged the government to take immediate disciplinary action against the concerned army major and the police officials who had been refusing to register an FIR. “If we are truly moving towards political democracy, as reiterated time and again, we should begin practising the basic values of democracy from today. And these values do not include bullying and bashing up people”, the statement said.
