LAHORE, May 26: Two alleged robbers were killed while two policemen and as many family members sustained injuries in a crossfire during a house robbery in E-Block, Sabzazar, on Saturday.

Sabzazar police said that two robbers stormed into the house of Rai Zulfikar at 3pm and started looting cash and valuables at gunpoint.

A neighbour realizing that a robbery was taking place alerted Rescue 15 police.

The Sabzazar SHO and his team immediately rushed to the scene, besieged the house and asked the suspects to surrender. The suspects opened fire on the police from two directions which was retaliated.

The firing continued for a few minutes and it left one of the suspects dead and another seriously injured. The suspects’ firing also left ASI Khizar Hayat, constable Munir, woman inmate and her son injured.

Police seized cash and jewellery and two weapons from the suspects. The injured were admitted to a local hospital.

DIG (Operations) Rai Muhammad Tahir told Dawn that the robbers had fired at the legs of the woman and her son during crossfire with the police.

He claimed that police reached the scene in one and half minutes as the SHO, his vehicle and police mobile vehicle were present at the police station and the caller also kept telling the police about the location.

He said the injured robber, who died on his way to hospital, told his name as Shahzad of Ravi Rayan and his dead accomplice as Shafique of Karachi.

The DIG said police would further verify the names and criminal history of the suspects.

He announced Rs100,000 for the SHO, Rs75,000 each for injured policemen and Rs20,000 for the caller.
