The National Internship Programme was launched by the military government of Gen Pervez Musharraf to hone their skills and provide short-term jobs to new postgraduate students.
The new students, after completing their studies, immediately got jobs through this internship programme. Through this programme, monthly salary and office management was provided. The monthly salary for a year provided a sense of security to students.
The programme continued during the Musharraf government, but it was stopped by the PPP government. This programme benefited new postgraduates from both private and public sector universities. The government shut down the programme, saying it did not have the funds.
The programme was a blessing for fresh postgraduates. The government is requested to restart it by allocating budget this year. It will provide a ray of hope and temporary employment to fresh postgraduates.
