PESHAWAR, May 19: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has blacklisted the contractor of Peshawar bus terminal and ordered confiscation of his security amounting to Rs9 million for his failure to follow the agreement. It has also directed for recovery of another Rs11 million from him for not maintaining proper upkeep of the terminal.

The decision was taken in a meeting held here on Saturday with Provincial Minister for Transport Mian Iftikhar Hussain in the chair. The meeting decided to ensure proper use of income of the transport department and make main bus terminal of the city a model for other cities of the province.

Secretary transport Sikandar Qayyum, secretary Provincial Transport Authority and officials of finance, transport and law departments attended the meeting.

The participants discussed ways to improve working of the transport department and reviewed establishment of the transport complex.

Similarly, the meeting decided to double the number of security guards for foolproof security at the terminal. It also approved renovation of the waiting hall and ensuring better facilities to passengers at the terminal.

The meeting also approved establishment of a filling station and service stations inside the terminal to facilitate transporters.

Besides, a tractor-trolley would be bought and three sweepers appointed for ensuing cleanliness at the terminal on daily basis.

The meeting took strong exception to the former contractor of the bus terminal, who had not deposited the agreed money for three months in the provincial exchequer. As, a result, the said contractor was blacklisted for ever and his security of Rs9 million confiscated.

They participants also directed the authorities concerned to ensure recovery of another Rs11.4 million from the contractor for his failure to take steps for cleanliness of the terminal.
