LAHORE, May 19: A judicial magistrate on Saturday released 11 IJT activists on furnishing bail bonds of Rs5,000 each.
Civil Lines police had arrested them on Friday for staging a rally on The Mall. The investigating officer produced them before the court and sought their physical remand.
However, the defence counsel opposed the police request and argued that the students were holding a peaceful protest, but the police resorted to baton charge and arrested them. He pleaded that all the arrested students be released on bail.
Magistrate Rizwan Hanif Sheikh admitted the plea and released IJT activists on bail. — Staff Reporter
