KARACHI, May 19: Score of activists of the Pakistan People’s Party on Saturday took out a rally to express solidarity with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The ‘Gilani khappay rally’ was organised by the Karachi chapter of the PPP.

Chanting pro-Gilani slogans, PPP activists converged at the People’s Secretariat from where they took out a rally towards the Karachi Press Club.

Outside the KPC, various PPP leaders addressed the participants of the rally and vowed to frustrate all conspiracies against the PPP’s democratically elected government.

Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri said on the occasion that the PPP had struggled and made sacrifices for the freedom of all constitutional institutions.

“It is our right to live in a democratic environment where all freedoms are guaranteed and the rally proves that the PPP is a vibrant democratic party which will continue to protect democracy,” she said.

She said the PM was earlier convicted of giving jobs to the unemployed and was now being punished for following the constitution. “We believe in Bhutto ideology and will continue to safeguard our democratic rights,” she added.

The rally was also addressed by Sohail Abidi, Najmi Alam, Ismail Brohi and others, who warned forces that according to them were conspiring to derail the democratic dispensation.

They were extremely critical of the stance adopted by the PML-N, who they alleged had always colluded with the undemocratic forces to deny the people of Pakistan their due rights and freedom.

They vowed not to let such conspiracies succeed.
