LAHORE, May 18: Executive District Officer (Health) Dr Inamul Haq has said the Mother and Child Week will be observed from May 21 with a target to provide healthcare and awareness services among pregnant women and other general public.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, the EDO said the week-long activities would include walks, health education and awareness sessions by public health specialists, healthcare providers and lady health workers.

He said the purpose to launch healthy activities was to achieve the target of Millennium Development Goals of preventing maternal and infant mortality rates. He said the Mother and Child Week would be observed twice a year.

He said under two-year age children would be vaccinated in a door-to-door campaign, the children between two and five years of age would be given medicine for the treatment of abdominal worms and lastly iron folic acid tablets would be provided to pregnant women.

Dr Haq said teams of experts would also be dispatched for Tetanus Toxic vaccination during the campaign.
