IT was depressing to read that the PPP government had asked the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Orga) to increase the limit for unaccounted gas losses by two per cent from the existing seven to nine per cent.

However, the World Bank and the Asian Bank have not supported this move according to their loan conditions.

The beneficiary of this decision will be shareholders of the two gas companies: Sui Northern Gas Pipeline and Sui Southern Gas Pipeline. It is a pity that the price hike would be transferred to consumers, may be to the tune of 13 to 15 per cent.

Although more than two weeks have passed since the publication of the news item on April 26, nothing has been heard from the major opposition party PML(N). In fact, the PTI too has said nothing regarding it.

Can they justify their ignorance over this important national issue?
