ISLAMABAD, May 16: Foreign missions of three different countries in Islamabad received parcels carrying suspicious powder here on Wednesday, police said.
The parcels were received in the British and Australian high commissions and the France embassy in the federal capital and were reported to carry .5 gram of dark-grey powder each.
Besides, each parcel also carried a note of warning: “Nato supply must not be restored,” the police sources added.
The envelopes were spotted at the checking counters of the foreign missions by the security personnel. Shortly after, the officials concerned were informed and packets were taken away from the foreign installations. These were later thoroughly examined by bomb disposal squad that reached the foreign missions after the incident was reported. They examined the powder and declared it non-explosive.
Later, the parcels were handed over to Secretariat police for further legal action.
Preliminarily investigation, however, revealed the parcels were dispatched from Hyderabad Sindh, as stamps of the courier service company revealed, the police said, adding, all the parcels had been sent at same time from there. The powder was sealed in small plastic bags put inside the envelopes.
A case was registered against the unidentified sender(s) on charges of PPC 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 506.
An official of the British High Commission Rana Imran when contacted confirmed to Dawn that a suspicious package was spotted by the high commission’s security.
It was, later, taken away by police for further investigation, he added.
