LAHORE: The City Government here on Friday demolished the two newly built walls of the main gate of the Gaddafi Stadium after declaring them as encroachment of land.
The PCB chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed, however, rejected the claim of the city government and argued that the walls were built as part of the security arrangements which the PCB was making to ensure safety for the visiting teams.
Subhan said that the PCB only removed the iron-grilled walls to built the new brick structure in order to strengthen the security arrangements around the stadium.
He said a meeting in this regard was also held with the city government, a week ago in which the government agreed that the newly built walls did not come under the category of ‘encroachments’.
However, on Friday afternoon, some trucks from the city government demolished the walls in quick time and left.
It may be mentioned here that the tour of the Bangladesh team had also been deferred due to the lack of coordination between the PCB and the provincial government.
It is also learnt that the provincial government had asked the PCB to allow use of Pindi Stadium for a laptop distribution ceremony by chief minister Punjab on May 1 but the PCB put forward some terms and conditions for the same which, perhaps, resulted in a fallout. —Sports Reporter
