KARACHI, April 29: A young man was shot dead in Shireen Jinnah Colony near a private hospital within the remit of the Boat Basin police station late on Saturday, police said.

They said that the 26-year-old victim, Asif Iqbal, was a resident of DHA Phase-V, Florida Homes.

On the Saturday night, he along with his father and a brother was returning home after having dinner at a restaurant situated near Keamari when they were intercepted by two suspects on a motorcycle near the Ziauddin Hospital in Clifton.

After an exchange of hot words, the suspects opened fire on him, the police said.

The young man suffered fatal gunshot wounds and died on the spot, they added.

His body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.

Saddar division SP Farrukh said that according to the victim’s family, they had dinner in Keamari where Asif had a fight with someone, but the matter was resolved by the people present there.

The SP said that it could be that fight at the restaurant that resulted in his killing.

He said the victim’s father was a retired customs officer and the victim was a student.

The victim’s family took away his body, saying they would lodge a case after the funeral.

JSQM activist killed

A Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) activist was found shot dead in Haji Sukhia Goth within the remit of the Khokhrapar police station on Sunday, police said.

They said that the 39-year-old victim, Abdul Ghani, was a resident of Dumba Goth in Malir and his body was found in Haji Sukhia Goth in Malir.

The police believed that the victim had been kidnapped and later murdered by unidentified men who dumped his body where it was found.

The victim, who was shot in the head, was an active worker of the nationalist party and rickshaw driver by profession, they said.

He went to his work as usual on the day of the incident when unidentified men kidnapped him and murdered him, the police added.

The body was taken to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to his family after completion of the formalities.
