PESHAWAR, Dec 9: Five persons died and 16 others received injuries when a passenger coach collided with a land cruiser here at the Mathani area, on Monday evening.

Three of the dead identified were: Naik Mohammad, Faqir Mohammad and Siddiqullah while names of the remaining two could not be ascertained. Two of the victims were sepoys of the Frontier Constabulary.

Three women— Ayesha, Khadeeja and Suman— also include the 16 injured.

The people receiving injuries were rushed to different hospitals of Peshawar where three of them are stated to be in serious condition.

Eyewitnesses said that both the vehicles— the coach bearing registration No.E8107 of Peshawar and the land cruiser bearing No.167-4008 of Karachi— were overspeeding.

The coach was on its way from North Waziristan Agency to Peshawar whereas the other vehicle was coming from the Southern Karak district.

When the vehicles tried to overtake each other, they collided.
