LAHORE, April 22: A 13-year-old boy, who was hospitalised allegedly after being tortured by his seminary teacher in Bhaggatpura locality in Shadbagh police precincts a few days ago, succumbed to his internal injuries on Sunday.

The police said Muhammad Jameel, of Shahbaz Road, was thrashed by his tutor, Qari Muhammad Jameel, at Azizia Masjid. The boy reached home in critical condition and complained to his parents that his teacher had thrashed him and kicked him repeatedly in abdomen. The family took the boy to Mayo Hospital where he remained under treatment for next few days but in vain.

City SP (Operations) Muhammad Anwer Khaitran told Dawn that police received an emergency call from Shafiq Ahmad, who reported his son’s death by torture on Sunday.

He said that around 150 people, including family members and locals, blocked the main road of the locality and protested the death, adding the mob dispersed on assurances that the suspect would be taken to task.

Meanwhile, police registered a case against Qari Jameel, of Azad Kashmir, on the complaint of Shafiq. The police said that raids were being conducted to arrest the suspect.

Meanwhile, the chief minister has sought a report from the CCPO within 24 hours.

SHOT DEAD: Three people allegedly gunned down a 30-year-old man and injured another over enmity in Khan Colony in Ghalib Market police precincts on Sunday.

ASP Tariq Aziz said Sohail, alias Daddu, and his two accomplices shot at Shahzad Butt and Itrat Ali over enmity arising out of litigation. He said both the sides had a scuffle few days ago but locals mediated between them.

The police shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case against Sohail and his accomplices, with no arrest so far.
