QUETTA, Dec 8: A prominent writer and poet of Brahvi language and station director of the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, Loralai, Ghulam Haider Hasrat, died after prolonged illness here on Saturday night. He was 52.
He has left behind a widow, two sons and two daughters. He was buried in a local graveyard. A large number of people, including writers, poets, friends and officials and employees of Radio Pakistan, Quetta, attended his funeral.
Ghulam Haider Hasrat started his carrier with Radio Pakistan, Quetta, as Brahvi news reader in 1962. Later, he became the Brahvi language producer and was promoted as programme officer. Recently, he was appointed as Station Director of the PBC, Loralai.
He had also been chairman of the Brahvi Academy. A number of books on Brahvi literature and dramas is also to his credit.
Balochistan governor Amirul Mulk Mengal and chief minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yousaf expressed deep grief over the death of Ghulam Haider Hasrat, and lauded his services in the field of Brahvi literature.
They said with his death a gap had been created in the literary circles, which would take a long time to be filled. They prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in peace.
Meanwhile, a condolence meeting was held at the PBC Quetta centre under the chairmanship of station director Agha Mohammad Kasi.
The meeting paid rich tributes to Ghulam Haider Hasrat for the services he had rendered for the promotion of Brahvi literature and in the field of broadcasting.
Fateha was offered for the departed soul and sympathies expressed with the bereaved family.
