RAWALPINDI, March 28: In order to create awareness among the people about the menace of drugs, Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) in collaboration with Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) organised a poster competition titled, ‘No to Drugs’ at RAC on Wednesday.  

The students of different colleges and schools from Rawalpindi and Islamabad participated in the activity. ANF Commander Brigadier Faheem Ahmed Khan was the chief guest. RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed and former RAC resident director Naheed Manzoor were also present on the occasion.

The competition was held in two categories. In school category, Mahnoor Khan, Ayza Malik and Mahnoor Siddique from Wah Cantonment secured first, second and third positions respectively. Similarly, in college category, Amira Adil from Joint Staff College secured first position, Hina Ali from Government Degree College for Women F-Block, Satellite Town Rawalpindi got second position and Sidra Kanwal from Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) clinched the third position. Cash prizes of Rs5,000, Rs3,000 and Rs2,000 were awarded to the position holders respectively in both the categories.

After the prize distribution ceremony, chief guest Brigadier Faheem Ahmed Khan said the purpose of this activity was to create awareness among students, teachers, parents and civil society about the drug abuse.

He said participation of all the institutions in this noble and national cause was necessary to combat the menace and to make society drug free.

“Drug abuse causes multiple problems for countries and communities. Addicts cannot act as normal members of the society.

The menace of drugs can be fought and education is the first battle. Children should be sensitised to the drugs,” he said.

RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed while addressing on the occasion said that the council was always available for such kind of constructive activities.
