KARACHI, March 21: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said Wednesday that the PPP-led government would continue to respect and uphold the freedom of the press.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the CM House to present a Rs50 million cheque to the Karachi Union of Journalists for setting up a journalists’ endowment fund, Mr Shah said the PPP and its governments had always stood by journalists in their struggle for securing their rights.

He said the government would continue to play its role in ensuring that journalists got their due rights and expressed the hope that journalists too would discharge their professional duties with ‘responsibility’. KUJ president G.M. Jamali thanked the government for providing the money and said the endowment fund would go a long way in addressing problems faced by the media personnel.
