Murderer arrested

TAXILA, March 21: Wah Cantt police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested the boy who shot dead his mother on Feb 23.

Police sources said Ashar Khan, a 9th class student, shot dead his mother over a petty dispute in Gulshan Colony and escaped from the scene.

Acting on a tip-off, a police party raided his relative’s house and arrested him. — Correspondent

Car-lifter gang busted

ISLAMABAD, March 21: Koral police on Wednesday busted a gang of car lifters, a police spokesman said.

SP Faisal Bashir Memon had constituted a team under the supervision of DSP Malik Tahir Mehmud to check car theft incidents in Koral police station area.

The team conducted raids at several places and succeeded in arresting six persons including four Afghan nationals for their alleged involvement in auto-lifting theft incidents.

During preliminary interrogation, auto-thieves confessed to lifting cars from PWD Colony, Korang Town and other areas.

Meanwhile, Sabzi Mandi nabbed six suspects and Aabpara police apprehended two suspects during search operation in their areas.

Likewise, Margalla police arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in street crimes and recovered mobile phones, cash and pistols from them. Similarly, Tarnol police recovered 112grams heroin from a drug peddler which led to his arrest. — Staff Reporter

Five injured on road

FATEHJANG, March 21: Five persons were critically injured in a road accident near Shahpur dam some 6 km from here.

The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Fatehjang police station on Wednesday.

According to police sources as a wagon (1346-C) coming from Rawalpindi reached near the dam, it had a head on collision with a car (LOH-553) coming from opposite side.

Resultantly, five persons were injured who were identified as Mohammad Nazir (car driver) a resident of Taxila; Samina (wife of Mohammad Bashir) along with her children named Amin, Haris and Hira.

They were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital Fatehjang but due to their critical condition they were shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital Rawalpindi. The wagon driver, however, managed to escape from the scene. Police have registered a case and started investigation. However, no arrest has so far been made. — A Correspondent

Thai princess visits Lok Virsa

ISLAMABAD, March 21: Royal princess of Thailand Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited Lok Virsa here on Wednesday.

She was accompanied by Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali, special assistant to prime minister for social welfare and Thailand’s ambassador to Pakistan Marwin Tah-Attanawin.

Executive Director Lok Virsa Khalid Javaid briefed her majesty about important aspects of Pakistan’s traditional culture.

Later, the princess was taken around various 3-dimensional creative displays depicting living cultural traditions and lifestyles of the people at the Pakistan national museum of ethnology, popularly known as Heritage Museum.

The princess took keen interest in the displays of folk tales, Sufis and shrines, textile, women at work, wedding rituals in Cholistan desert, silk thread and hall of architecture.On conclusion of her visit, the princess remarked: “Pakistan has a very rich, diverse and beautiful culture which has been nicely presented in this museum”. Princess also paid a visit to the Pakistan Monument and Museum and planted a sapling at Shakarparian. — A Reporter
