Abolished districts restored

Published December 4, 2002

QUETTA, Dec 3: The Balochistan government on Tuesday restored four defunct districts, including the home district of Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali— Jafarabad.

An official notification issued here reads that all the four districts— Musakhel, Barkhan, Bolan and Jafarabad— had been restored with immediate effect.

The previous democratic government had abolished six districts terming them a burden on the public exchequer, but owing to a strong public protest the government later restored two districts while the orders regarding the four districts were not withdrawn.

The government was of the view that these districts were created on political grounds and just to please the MPAs of the area.

The newly-elected prime minister had promised the people of his constituency that the abolished districts would be restored very soon.
