VEHARI, Mar 10: A man threw acid on his wife over a money dispute here on Saturday, burning the left side of her face and shoulder, police and doctors said.

The sources said that Intizar Husain, the second husband of 30-year-old Firdos Bibi, went to her house in Union Council-1, along with his brother Sarwer Nadeem, sisters Latifa, Yasmeen and Razia and some other people. An exchange of hot words took place between them before Intizar allegedly threw acid on Firdos and fled.

She was taken to the DHQ Hospital Vehari and shifted from there to the burns unit of Nishter Hospital in Multan.

DSP Sadar told Dawn that a case had been registered against five men and two women under sections 324 and 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act on a complaint lodged by Nasir Husain, a brother of Ms Firdos.

DPO Ali Nasir Rizvi said that five of the accused, among them Intizar Husain, had been arrested.

Ms Firdos moved to the rented house about four months ago after a dispute with Intizar and her in-laws and has been living there with her six-year-old daughter from her first husband.

Police said Ms Firdos had given Rs200,000 to Intizar Hussain a few months ago, adding that the man threw acid on her when she demanded her money back.
