MITHI, Dec 3: The residents of Thar, whose daughters intend to acquire higher secondary education after passing matriculation, have expressed serious concern regarding there being no college for girls in Mithi.

Talking to a group of journalists on Tuesday, some of the girls’ parents complained that though the government was making claims that it was doing everything to safeguard the fundamental rights of women, however there was not even a single college for women in the entire district.

They said that as a result hundreds of Thari girls who pass matriculation every year can not attend girls colleges and are deprived of higher education.

It must be mentioned here that the government had sanctioned a scheme for establishing a girls college in Mithi, which was expected to start functioning from academic year 2002. However, its building is yet to be constructed.

The Tharis have demanded the governor, the chief secretary, and the authorities concerned to take notice of the issue as soon as possible.

relief: The government will be distributing Rs2,330,000 to 464 families from Baitulmaal funds so as to provide relief to the drought-affected Tharis.

This was disclosed by the district coordination officer, Tharparkar, Mohammad Juman Jamro, while distributing Baitulmaal cheques among the deserving people of the district on Tuesday.

Briefing the newsmen, the assistant director, Baitulmaal, Sindh, said that in addition to the previous on-going programmes, 464 drought-affected and poor families of Thar were being provided Rs5,000 each from the Baitulmaal through cross cheques in four Tehsils of Tharparkar district and the process would continue.
