ISLAMABAD: The memo commission on Friday directed former ambassador to US Hussain Haqqani to respond within 10 days to the documentary evidences provided by Mansor Ijaz against him, DawnNews reported.

The commission formed by the Supreme Court to investigate the memogate scandal continued recording US businessman Mansoor Ijaz’s testimony today at Pakistan’s High Commission in London via video link.

The Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, Justice Faiz Essa is heading the Memo Commission while Chief Justice Sindh High Court Mushir Alam and Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, Hameed-ur-Rehman are the other two members of the commission..

The commission fixed March 15-18 for Haqqani’s counsel to cross-examine Ijaz.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s counsel from Balochistan Salahuddin Maingal and party chief Nawaz Sharif’s counsel Mustafa Ramday completed their arguments today.

The commission cautioned Haqqani that his family can be called in if he avoided providing pin code of his mobile phone.

The commission, by proving written order of Thursday’s proceedings to his counsel, directed Haqqani to respond to evidences against him before recording his statement. Haqqani is bound to appear before the commission on a four-day notice, it added.

Ijaz told the commission that he has close terms with Gen James Jones. However, Gen Jones also tried to convince him for not revealing about the memo, he told.

Ijaz, however, refused to disclose his discussion with Gen Jones about memo and President Asif Ali Zardari.

Further proceedings were adjourned to March 15.
