KARACHI, Dec 2: Gulfaraz XI and Zubair XI set up a final clash after contrasting semifinal victories in the Ramazan Champions Trophy hockey tournament at UBL Sports Complex Monday.

Gulfaraz XI notched-up a facile 4-1 triumph over Hameed Khan XI in the first semifinal, while Aijaz Raza poached the winner in Zubair XI’s 1-0 win over Munawwar-uz-Zaman XI in the other semifinal.

Olympian Kamran Ashraf’s 6th-minute penalty corner conversion gave Gulfaraz XI a 1-0 lead which was levelled in the 17th minute by Olympian Danish Kaleem off a short corner.

The winners bounced back and went ahead once again five minutes before the lemon time when international Anis Ahmad came into action.

Gulfaraz XI scored twice after the resumption when former international Arif Bhopali fired home in the 42nd minute. Asif Ali Khan capped the victory with a 49th minute field effort.

Later, in the second semifinal, Aijaz’s 27th-minute match-winner proved decisive and put his side into the final.
