ISLAMABAD, Feb 23: The local administration on Thursday approved 51 uplift schemes for rural and urban areas of federal capital worth over Rs640 million, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Tariq Pirzada said.
The schemes related to water supply, health, education, agriculture and security were approved in a meeting of Islamabad Development Working Party (IDWP) chaired by the chief commissioner.All approved schemes will be executed under the government's Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2011-2012 and Islamabad Development Package (IDP) announced by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
Security-related development projects approved under the PSDP are subject to clearance from Planning and Development Division which include construction of a police station in Sector G-13 Markaz with an estimated cost of Rs37.221 million, construction of police barracks in Sector G-13 Markaz at a cost Rs58.335 million, construction of six police posts in Sector G-13/1, 2, 3 and 4 at an estimated cost Rs51.115 million.
The meeting also approved the project for construction of a boundary wall around Islamabad Press Club in Sector F-6/1 at a cost Rs2.713 million, provision of laptops for the district courts Islamabad at a cost Rs2.612 million.
The meeting also gave go-ahead to projects including development of olive vegetable nursery in capital with an estimated amount of Rs22.057 million, promotion of orchard and vegetable farming at cost Rs59.750 million, productivity enhancement through agriculture land development at a cost Rs59.117 million, water conservation through high efficiency irrigation system with an amount of Rs53.401 million, up-gradation and expansion of veterinary healthcare services at a cost Rs58.451 million and improvement of milk and meat production by strengthening artificial insemination services at the cost Rs46.231 million.
Besides this, the project relating to establishment of computer literacy centres in 12 union councils at a cost Rs38.100 million was approved.
The meeting approved projects related to feasibility study for solar-based water supply schemes in rural areas of city with estimated cost of Rs4.000 million. Establishment of offices of newly announced second session court in Islamabad at cost Rs8.7 million was also okayed.
