NAWABSHAH, Feb 21: A man burnt his wife badly when he and his father and two friends sprinkled petrol and set the woman on fire on Tuesday in a village near Daur.

Dur Mohammad Mahar and his father Atta Mohammad Mahar, and two friends Wahid Bux and Abdul Jabbar barged into the house of his estranged 18-year-old wife Naseeban’s parents and  doused her with petrol, father of the woman Maroof Mahar said.

Talking to Dawn at the Women Centre Nawabshah he said that his daughter was married to Dur Mohammad two years ago but the man didn’t give her happiness for even a day. His everyday battering brought the woman back to her parents and at 2am on Tuesday, Dur Mohammad and his father and friends entered the house and seriously injured Naseeban after soaking her in petrol and burning her, he said.

Maroof Mahar has appealed to the authorities to take notice of the incident, provide treatment to injured woman and protection to entire family and arrest accused.

The injured woman was taken to People’s Medical College Hospital from where she was referred to Karachi.

When contacted, SP Nisar Ahmed Channa of Shaheed Benazirabad district said that Dur Mohammad and Abdul Jabbar had been arrested whereas efforts for remaining two were on.
