KARACHI, Feb 14: The Qingqi rickshaw operators said on Tuesday that since the government had assured them that a crackdown against them would be stopped and their other demands would be considered, they had called off a proposed demonstration at the chief minister’s house.

All Karachi Qingqi Rickshaw Welfare Association representatives Sadfar Qadri and Akbar Khan told Dawn that they had also assured the authorities that they would not allow any underage driver to operate the tri-wheeler.

They said the assurance was given to them at a meeting held between Transport Minister Akhtar Jadoon and Qingqi representatives. They said they had been assured by the authorities that the police crackdown against Qingqi operators would be stopped and the arrested drivers would be released soon.—Staff Reporter
