KARACHI, Feb 14: The governor on Tuesday approved a university and medical college for Hyderabad and directed the authorities to complete formalities in this regard, at the earliest.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan in a meeting at the Governor House decided to set up a general university and medical college because Hyderabad was the second biggest city of the province. The university will be named Mohammad Ali Jinnah University.
The governor gave the directives to secretaries of health, education and law.
He ordered earmarking 500 acres for the proposed university.
Initially, the university would function on the premises of Comprehensive School, Latifabad-10 and the proposed college in the Kohsar area. Work on these projects would be initiated under the annual development scheme this year.
The governor also instructed the Hyderabad Development Authority to begin work on the proposed project of an education city in Hyderabad.—PPI
