ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Thursday chaired meeting of Council of Common Interest (CCI) and urged for speeding up various projects to overcome energy crisis in the country.

The meeting was attended by chief ministers of all the provinces and some federal ministers and discussed matters of national importance.

In his opening remarks Gilani said CCI was playing important role in resolution of national issues.

It was eighth CCI meeting after passage of 18th Constitutional Amendment. In previous meetings CCI considered 43 issues raised by the federal and provincial governments of which 34 issues have been implemented.

Gilani expressed his confidence that CCI will continue to hold meaningful deliberations for resolving all issues.

He said that the cabinet has approved Pakistan to become a member of Forum of Federation, a global body set up at Ottawa Canada which will provide opportunity to benefit from experiences of other federations.

The prime minister directed Finance Advisor Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh to devise a strategy for expediting work on power projects to overcome energy crisis in the country and convene national energy conference at the earliest to discuss ways for enhancing power generation.

He directed to take stringent measures to speed up work on Thar Coal energy project and installing transmission line in Thar area, remove obstacles in completion of power projects in the country particularly hydel projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and work on power generation by utiliszing sugar mills wastage.

He asked Shaikh to ensure coordination between Planning Commission and Economic Affairs Division for expediting work on power projects.
