THE use of microwave ovens has become quite common in most homes nowadays. There are some suggestions required to be complied by every user of microwave. No plastic container with food should be placed in the microwave for heating purpose. No plastic utensil should be put in the freezer.

Thin plastic wrap covers must also be avoided in microwave. Many users are unaware of their effects on the use of plastic hardware in the microwave.

Non-compliance can cause cancer due to dioxins. Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies.

Do not freeze plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Heating of food in microwaves using plastic containers having food with fat is hazardous for health. The combination of fat, high heat and plastic releases dioxins into the food and ultimately transfers to the body causing cancer.

It is recommended that glass such as corning ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers should only be used in microwave ovens.
